Share Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was killed today by an assassin who shot her and then blew himself up as she was leaving a campaign rally, ABC News has confirmed.

Bhutto was among at least 20 killed in the blast. A security adviser to Bhutto's party said she was shot in the neck and chest as she got into her vehicle to leave the rally in Rawalpindi, near the capital city of Islamabad.

"At 6:16 p.m. she expired," Wasif Ali Khan, a member of Bhutto's party who was at Rawalpindi General Hospital, told The Associated Press.

At the hospital, her supporters began chanting "dog, Musharraf, dog," a reference to Pakistan's president, Pervez Musharraf.

The attack took place as Bhutto was leaving a political rally where she addressed thousands before the country's Jan. 8 parliamentary elections.

Bhutto twice served as prime minister of the Islamic nation between 1988 and 1996.

Oct. 18, she returned to Pakistan from an eight-year exile. During her triumphant arrival in Karachi, Pakistan, a suicide attacker blew himself up, killing more than 140 people. Bhutto escaped injury in that attack.

Bhutto has been the target of nine previous assassination attempts.

வேதாகமத்தை வாங்கி வாசிக்கலானார்

இரட்சிக்கப்பட்டபின் தேவகிருபையிலும்

, வல்லமையிலும் நிறைந்து கிறிஸ்துவுக்கு சாட்சியாக வாழ்ந்தார் ,

கிட்டதட்ட ஓராண்டுக்குப்பின் நற்செய்திக்குழுவினர் நடத்திய பெரிய அளவிலான ஒரு திறந்த வெளிக் கூட்டத்தில் தன் சாட்சியை அறிவித்தார்

. கடும் எதிர்ப்பு நடுவில் முதல் இரண்டு நாள் கூட்டங்கள் தடங்கலின்றி தேவகிருபையால் நடந்தேறியது .

மூன்றாம் நாள் கூட்டத்தில் குரைஷி

இயேசுவை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டதற்கான காரணத்தையும் . இயேசு அவருக்கு செய்த நன்மைகளையும் அறிவிக்கவேண்டுமென்று ஆண்டவரால் ஏவப்பட்டார். வழக்கமான பாடல் பகுதியும் ,ஜெப வேளையும் நிறைவேறியவுடன் குரைஷி மேடையில் ஏறி சாட்சி பகரத்தொடங்கினார் ,தன் குடும்ப சூழ்நிலைகளைப் பகிர்ந்துகொண்டு நான் கண்ட இஸ்லாமியர்களில் ஒருவராகிலும் பாவமன்னிப்பின் நிச்சயத்தைப் பெற்றிருக்கமாட்டார்கள் ஏன் தீர்க்கதரிசி முகமது கூட இந்த அனுபவததை அடைந்திருக்கமுடியாது. குரானில் சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ள இறைவன் இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவிலே தான் வெளிப்பட்டிருக்கிறார் எனவும் கூறினார் . இதைக் கேட்ட உணர்ச்சி வசப்பட்ட சில முஸ்லீம்கள் இவன் இஸ்லாம் மார்கத்தை காட்டிக்கொடுத்தவன் கல்லெறிந்து கொல்லப்படத்தக்க துரோகி என கத்தினார்கள் . இஸ்லாமியர்கள் அனைவரும் சேர்ந்து கொண்டு பிரசங்கத்தை நிறுத்து இல்லையேல் இங்கேயே உன்னை கொன்றுவிடுவோம் என முழங்கினர்.

ஆனால் குரைஷியோ ஐந்து ஆறு முறை மீண்டும் மீண்டும் அதே வார்த்தைகளைச் சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்

. அத்துடன் உறுதியான தீர்மானத்துடன் "நீங்கள் என்னைக் கொன்று போட்டாலும் பிராதான துதனுடைய எக்காளம் தொனிக்கிறதை கேட்கிற அந்த நேரத்தில் தானே நான் மரணத்திலிருந்து உயிரோடு எழுந்து பரலோகத்திற்கு பறந்து செல்வேன் . உங்களுக்கு அந்த நம்பிக்கை உண்டா ?" என்றும் கெர்ஜித்தார் இதுதான் அவரது சாட்சியத்தின் கடைசி வார்த்தைகள்

New Muslim-Christian violence in Pakistan

A FRESH outbreak of Muslim-Christian violence has been reported in Pakistan as the country faces political uncertainty.

Two villages have faced attacks with Muslims using mosques to broadcast calls for attacks on Christians.

The first incident took place in Govind village, near Lahore, according to Christian campaign group Release International. They claim that Muslims there objected to prayers being relayed through loudspeakers at the village church and used rival loudspeakers at seven mosques to broadcast a call to war against Christians

One villager said that the message declared: "A religious war has been started against the kaffirs [infidels] so all the Muslims come out of their houses".' In a separate incident, in the village of Kasur, mosque loudspeakers were used to call on Muslims to seize land belonging to Christians.

According to reports, more than 70 armed militants invaded the village, demolishing three homes before police intervened. The attackers said they were trying to reclaim the site of a Muslim graveyard, but this has been rejected by the Christian villagers.

One villager said: "Muslims threatened us that when they will [be] released from the jail, they will annihilate all of our houses and kill us. They are very powerful people. They often show their weapons and open fire in the air." Meanwhile Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q party, said that elections in Pakistan would be delayed at most until February, a month later than planned. However Benazir Bhutto has denounced the offer as 'insufficient' and called on General Musharraf to stand down within a week. President Bush said he had called General Musharraf and urged him to hold elections

ISLAMABAD: Suspected pro-Taliban militants kidnapped two Christians from a hospital in Pakistan's North Waziristan, a news report has said.

Masked men kidnapped the two Christian sanitation workers from the Miranshah Headquarters Hospital in North Waziristan on Friday, eyewitnesses said. Naeem Masih and Shahbaz Masih were abducted "right from the main gate of the hospital", the Daily Times quoted witnesses as saying. Around 1,000 Christians live in Miranshah.

Two Christians were kidnapped five months ago but were later released. Local Taliban are suspected to be involved in the incidents though no group has so far claimed responsibility for the kidnappings. Christian residents of Hadyara village on the outskirts of Lahore were attacked earlier this month by men who also stormed the New Apostolic Church, established before the partition of the Indian sub-continent.

They had complained to the authorities that their church could be razed by Muslims angry that Christian prayers were aired by loudspeakers.

Members of the minority community had said that announcements were made through mosque loudspeakers asking Muslims from nearby villages to be ready for a "final attack". Other announcements urged businesses and farmers not to allow Christians on to their properties.

Islamist militants in Pakistan have regularly threatened to kill Christian clerics in Southern Punjab's Khanewal district if they did not "embrace Islam and stop preaching Christianity." Demanding equal opportunities "as promised" by Pakistan founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, minority organisations in August had sought a ban on forced conversions and repeal of the stringent blasphemy laws in the Islamic country.

Groups to report 'new prophet' to police

BANDUNG: The Muslim Alliance (Alumi) of West Java said it will file a report with the National Police on Monday against sect leader Ahmad Musadek because he has claimed himself a prophet replacing Prophet Muhammad.

"We have entrusted the Muslim Lawyers Team to file the report," Ikhsan Setiadi Latief, the alliance secretary general told detik.com Saturday.

"Hopefully, this legal action can deter other heretical groups as well."

Ahmad Musadek heads the Al Qiyadah al Islamiyah sect, already considered as heretical by the Indonesian Ulema Council.

He claimed he was a prophet after 40 days of meditation.

Alumi, which consists of 46 Muslim organizations has accused Ahmad and his sect for blasphemy against Islam. -- JP

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN (BosNewsLife) -- The commander for Pakistan of The Salvation Army, a major Christian mission organization, has been shot and killed, a Protestant news agency reported Sunday, September 30, the latest in a series of attacks against Christians in the country.

Norwegian born Colonel Bo Brekke, 50, was killed Thursday, September 27, shortly after he chaired a meeting at The Salvation Army headquarters in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province and Pakistan's second largest city, reported the Swiss-based Adventist Press Service (APD).

Police reportedly detained a man on charges of involvement in the murder. His motive was not immediately clear, although investigators suggested the suspect had no links to a terror network. The colonel's wife, Colonel Birgitte Brekke, was in London at the time, attending meetings at The Salvation Army's international headquarters, APD said. She flew to Norway to meet with her two sons.

Bo and Birgitte Brekke began working for The Salvation Army in Pakistan in September last year, serving in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Colonel Brekke's funeral was to be held later this week in Oslo, Norway by The Salvation Army General Shaw Clifton, APD reported.

"DISTINCTIVE TALENTS"

"Colonel Bo Brekke was a Salvation Army leader of unusual and distinctive talents. Both he and his wife, Colonel Birgitte Brekke, were known for their hearts of compassion towards the marginalized," Clifton said in published remarks.

The Salvation Army was active in Pakistan as part of its worldwide mission to spread the Christian faith and support education, the relief of poverty, and what it calls "other charitable objects beneficial to society or the community of mankind as a whole." The Salvation Army Salvation Army works in 111 countries, involving more than 1.5 million 'Salvationists' and 100,000 employees.

News of the latest incident comes amid growing concerns about attacks and threats against Christians in Pakistan, often by Muslim militants. Days before the latest murder, reports emerged that a Pakistani official in the northern district of Swat warned female teachers and students to don Islamic garb, citing threats from Taliban militants in the area.

Extremists in Swat have reportedly conducted a campaign of Islamization in the district against all things deemed un-Islamic since early July, when a government crackdown on militants at the Lal Masjid mosque in Islamabad triggered violent reactions nationwide.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL

The order to wear burgas may affect Christians at the Catholic-run Public High School in Sangota, commented Compass Direct News agency. The all-girls school had already closed down for a week this month after being threatened with suicide attacks for supposedly converting students to Christianity.

In a bid to tackle religious tensions in the country, Joseph Francis, the Pakistan Christian National Party leader and chairman of the Christian Legal Aid Assistance & Settlement (CLAAS) wants to participate in presidential elections. However Francic said the election commission has rejected his nomination, citing an article of Pakistan's constitution barring non-Muslim candidates from running in presidential polls.
